Many of today’s top women and men competing on the WTA and ATP World Tours started their professional tennis careers by playing on the USTA Pro Circuit. The USTA Pro Circuit makes it easier and more affordable for American players to earn points for their ranking without having to travel abroad. This year, our first glimpse at future champions was in January when top local players competed at the US Futures at USC and Legends Long Beach $25k Pro Circuit.

These two Pro Circuit Futures tournaments are held back to back and both offer free community events each year. At the beautiful new tennis complex at USC, exceptional competition was complimented by a NJTL community reception, youth tennis play day, and USPTA clinic.  The Kids Play Day was open to all youngsters, a wonderful opportunity for kids to play tennis with members of the USC Men’s tennis team, tour the campus, and learn from the athletic trainer to both of USC’s tennis squads. The USPTA clinic featured USC Men’s Head Coach Peter Smith and his assistant, Kris Kwinta. They covered injury prevention and demonstrated how Division 1 players keep themselves healthy and ready for a grueling season with proper warm-up, stretching, and preparation.

A few miles south, Legends Long Beach Pro Circuit also provided free kids activities, a cardio tennis clinic for adults, and a Wilson Pro Am! These free community events help grow and connect the sport with local tennis enthusiasts. Plus, this was the first year these two professional tournaments were corporate sponsored, involving local businesses and creating a hometown feel for each event.

Despite some inclement weather, the combination of tournament play, special events, and local sponsors significantly boosted interest and attendance this year, creating an exciting atmosphere for both the players and the attendees.
