Top-seeded Brandon Nakashima came up big Saturday to advance to the Boys’ 18s semifinals with a solid straight-set win over No. 5-8 seeded UCLA-bound Connor Hance during the 115th Annual SCTA Junior Sectionals. Nakashima will take on another No. 5-8 seed in Siem Woldeab of La Mesa in Sunday’s semis at the Los Caballeros Racquet Club in Fountain Valley on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Defending champion 17-year-old Timothy Sah of San Diego is two matches from repeating his title in the 18s as he needed three sets to beat Calabasas’ Jacob Bullard, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, in another quarterfinal match.
The finals in the Boys’ 18s are set for Monday at 2 p.m. at Los Cab.

In the Girls’ 18s singles, Kelly Chen, Hannah Zhao, Charlotte Chavatipon and Jennifer Kerr all won quarterfinal matches to move on to the semis. In the Girls’ 16s, Katrina Scott, Winta Woldeab, Lindsay Hung and top-seeded Amanda Chan did the same. In the Boys’ 16s, Ian Freer, Justin Good, Aditya Gupta and Brett Brinkman won quarterfinal matches on a hot Saturday of play.
In the Boys’ 18s doubles final at Los Cab at 8 a.m., top-seeded Bryce Pereira and Ivan Thamma will take on the No. 3 team of Jack Pulliam and Jacob Bullard. The No. 1 seeds will meet No. 2 in the Girls’ 18s doubles final on Sunday at 8 a.m. at Los Cab. Top-seeded Julia Deming and Rena Lin will face No. 2 Paulina Ferrari and Jennifer Kerr, who need a 12-10 10-point tiebreaker win to advance to the final with a win over the team of Stone/Willson.
