Nakashima Takes 18s Title; Final Sectional Results

Now Brandon Nakashima knows what true revenge feels like. The 15-year-old from San Diego lived up to his top seeding to capture his third SCTA Junior Sectional Singles title with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win over Irvine 18-year-old Caleb Chakravarthi in the Boys’ 18s singles final on Monday on the final day of the 115th annual tournament at the Los Caballeros Racquet Club.

Nakashima, who also won the Boys’ 10s Sectionals in 2011 and the Boys’ 16s title last year, lost a tough three-set match to Chakravarthi back in early January in the first round of qualifying at the USTA Pro Circuit Long Beach $25,000 Futures tournament.

Defending 18s champion 17-year-old Timothy Sah of San Diego took home third-place honors on Monday with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Siem Woldeab. In the Girls’ 18s singles final, No. 3 Hannah Zhao got past No. 9 Jennifer Kerr, 6-2, 6-2, to win the coveted Sectional trophy.

In the Boys’ 18s doubles final top-seeded Bryce Pereira and Ivan Thamma took out the No. 3 team of Jack Pulliam and Jacob Bullard, 7-6, 6-3, to capture the title. The No. 1 seeds met No. 2 in the Girls’ 18s doubles final as top-seeded Julia Deming and Rena Lin downed No. 2 Paulina Ferrari and Jennifer Kerr in the final, 6-4, 6-1.
