Former OC player, UC-Davis grad dies in military crash

The USTA is saddened to learn of the passing of #UCDavis alumnus and USMC pilot Captain Sean Elliott, who died with 15 of his fellow servicemen in a tragic plane crash in Mississippi this summer.

Capt. Elliott was a notable high school tennis player in Orange County and graduated from Davis in 2009,  who opted to enlist in the US Marine Corps instead of turning pro. Capt. Elliott, described on the court as “phenomenal” and “a big hitter,” saw active duty across the globe, including Afghanistan and Korea. As a young man, he served as a ballboy at the US Men’s Clay Court Championships in Houston in 2003-2004.

The USTA offers condolences to the family of Captain Sean Elliott, who was interned at Arlington National Cemetery in August.
