In the 6 p.m. match in front of a festive pro-Trojans crowd, No. 3 USC blanked the No. 6 Sun Devils, who were making their return to The Ojai after returning to college tennis this year. The Trojans went up 1-0 after the doubles, and then Jake Devine made it 2-0 with a win at No. 6 singles. Brandon Holt at No. 1 won in straight sets, and minutes later No. 2 Daniel Cukierman added the clincher to send USC into Friday’s semifinals.

No. 1 UCLA 4, No. 9 Arizona 0

The No. 1 UCLA Bruins won the doubles point at No. 1 and No. 3 by 6-1 scores, and then quickly finished off the No. 9 Wildcats as No. 1 Martin Redlicki, Keegan Smith, and Logan Staggs picked up straight-set wins.

No. 2 Stanford 4, No. 7 Washington 2

Despite a loss at No. 1 and singles to put the Huskies ahead 2-1 after the Cardinal took the doubles point, Sameer Kumar, Eric Fomba, David Wilczynsk and William Genesen provided wins with Genesen getting the clinching win.

No. 4 Oregon 4, No. 5 California 3

Oregon won the doubles points and got wins from No. 1 (Thomas Laurent), No 2 (Simon Stevens), No. 3 (Akihiro Tanaka) to advance to the semifinals against top-seeded UCLA.

Stanford won the doubles convincingly, with two 6-1 wins, and No. 2 Melissa Lord, No. 3 Carolina Lampl, and No. 6 Emma Higuchi provided clinching wins.

No. 3 Arizona State 4, No. 6 USC 2 (OVAC)

Gabby Smith won at the top spot for the Trojans, but it wasn’t enough as ASU picked up wins at No. 2 (Ilze Hattingh), No. 3 (Nicole Fossa Huergo), No. 4 (Savannah Slaysman), as well as the doubles.

No. 5 Washington State 4, No. 4 California 3 (WEIL)

In a match that lasted over five hours, the Cougars defeated the Bears going down to the wire for the victory. At No. 4 singles, Tiffany Mylonas outlasted Maria Smith, clinching the match in a third-set tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6. Washington State next faces No. 1 Stanford in Friday’s semifinals at 1 p.m. at Weil Academy.

Former Ojai Open champions Ena Shibahara and Jada Hart returned to familiar surroundings leading the Bruins to victory as Ayan Broomfield won the clinching match at No. 5 singles.

Men’s Open Division 

Former Wimbledon junior doubles winner and two-time NCAA doubles champion Michael Shabaz won two rounds to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday in play at the Ojai Valley Inn. The No. 4-seeded Shabaz, who played his college tennis at the University of Virginia, beat Kento Perera and Kevin Bondar. Also moving on with two wins was top-seeded former Pepperdine All American Sebastian Fanselow and 2015 winner Philip Bester.

Women’s Open Division 

Top-seeded Hanna Chang will open up play Friday morning at 8 a.m. at the Ojai Valley Inn. At 11 a.m. No. 2 seeded Allie Will plays her first-round match, as does defending champion Salma Ewing and last years’ Ojai 18s singles champion and future ASU Sun Devil Cali Jankowski.

Boys’ CIF Division 

Last year’s finalist and top-seeded Stefan Dostanic of Irvine Woodbridge got off to a good start as he won his first-round match over Charles Qian of Cathedral Catholic in San Diego, 6-2, 6-1, and Ian Habbestad from Damien, 6-3, 6-1.

Juniors  

In the Boys’ 16s, top-seeded Fernando Fonseca of Weil Academy won two rounds, dropping just four games over four sets. Top-seeded in the Boys’ 14s, Sebastian Gorzny of Irvine dropped just three games in his two wins. Casie Wooten is top-seeded in the Girls’ 16s, and Isabelle Kouzmanov from Novi, Mich., is top-seeded in the Girls’ 14s. Top seed in the Girls’ 18s, Nicole Mossmer of La Jolla opens play in the Girls’ 18s and will face Lauren Anderson of Camarillo.
