The 116th Annual SCTA Junior Sectionals concluded in Fountain Valley on Monday, featuring some dominant performances and a few see-saw battles that exemplify the quality of junior tennis in Southern California.

Taylor Johnson, the top seed in Girls 18s, will head to UCLA this fall with her final junior championship after toppling (5) Kimberly Hance of Torrance in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Johnson, of Redondo Beach, Calif., is the region’s top ranked junior and rates second in the nation as she joins the Bruins.

Siem Woldeab had a week to remember, undefeated in both singles and doubles after hoisting championship trophies in both competitions. In singles, the top seed Woldeab defeated (5) Omni Kumar of Irvine in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Alongside San Diego’s Eshan Talluri in Boys’ 18s doubles action, Woldeab collected his second hardware with a finals win over Matthew Poh & Kyle Sillman, 4-6, 6-3, 10-1. The La Mesa junior will enter his senior year at Helix High School in the top 5 among national collegiate recruits.

In Girls 12s, Rancho Cucamonga’s Carla Pacot (1) dropped only seven games headed into the championship final against (5) Emily Deming of Fallbrook. A heavy favorite after tallying a 6-0 set in each of her previous matches, Pacot was pressed by Deming but ultimately continued her win streak with a 7-6, 6-3 victory.

Other winning top seeds included Maxi Duncan (G16s) over Justine Dondonay, Timothy Li (B16s) over Takeyasu Sekiguchi, Calissa Dellabarca (G14s) in three sets over Amanda Perez, and Steve Nguyen (B12s) over Tyler Li.

Santa Barbara’s Masato Perera (3) was victorious over Woodland Hills’ Marcus Sebastian (5) in Boys 14s in a three set thriller, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2.

The Girls 10s final saw Mikayla Hickman triumph over Julieta Pareja (7-6, 6-3), and in Boys 10s, Rishvanth Krishna defeated Alexander Basamakov (6-1, 6-2) for the win.

With the top seed upended in the quarterfinals, (2) Amanda Chan & Britt Pursell emerged in Girls 18s doubles with a win over Michele Deng & Dominique Stone, 6-3, 7-6.
