The SCTA Senior Hall of Fame inducts six new honorees at 2018 Induction Ceremony, to be held at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. This year’s class represents tennis achievement in San Fernando Valley, San Diego, and Beach Cities.
Inductees include:
David Bohannon, of Long Beach, Calif., a former National grass court champion from Glendale who has represented the United States in international competition, and coached at the high school and parks & recreation level;
Robin Harris, the first woman to play on a male junior college team at San Diego State, and a former World Mixed Doubles champion already with multiple National titles to her credit in 2018;
Tony Prodan, formerly of Irvine, Calif., a posthumous honoree, a former UCLA Bruin who served in the US Air Force before launching tennis centers in Los Angeles and Orange County and played a key role in bringing Davis Cup and Southwest Championships to Southern California;
Robyn Ray, of Carmel Valley, Calif., the face of tennis at Newport Beach Marriott Tennis Club for many years, who competed at both Wimbledon, the French Open, and the US Open, and an eight time Pacific Southwest Senior Cup champion;
Saul Snyder, of San Diego, Calif., a former Southern California Player of the Year and San Diego District Sportsman of the Year, who played undefeated tennis over a decade of play at the Super Senior North/South Challenge;
Steve Solomon, who developed senior tournaments locally and on the national level, including the ASICS World Tennis Classic and the largest Husband/Wife tournament in the country, and a member of the National Senior Competition committee.
Previous notable inductees include Ben Press, Bob Sherman, Dodo Cheney, and Evelyn Houseman, for whom the SCTA’s annual junior sportsmanship awards are named.
