Donoslovic teaching SoCal players through TGA Premier Tennis

Meet Angela Donoslovic, Lead Head Coach for USTA SoCal’s TGA Premier Tennis schools program!

Angela began her prolific athletic career as a competitive figure skater in the former Yugoslavia (now Serbia) before she discovered her passion for tennis. She quickly rose up the junior tennis ranks, and by the age of 11, was a three time national champion in Yugoslavia.

Angela says that the actual competition is what really made her fall in love with tennis.

“My coaches were very good and I enjoyed traveling to national tournaments,” she recalls. Through her junior years, Angela went on to become a twenty time junior national champion and a European junior national champion, beating future WTA stars players along the way. As an 18 year old, Angela played on the Yugoslavian Federation Cup Team for coach Gelena Gencic, well known as Novak Djokovic’s first coach.

Angela took a break from tennis to attend college in Yugoslavia. She found her way back to tennis after college as a coach since there was not much of an economy in the new Serbia. It was at that time that her passion for tennis was reignited. She found that she really enjoyed developing young players.

“New Players are like a blank canvas,” she says. “They don’t know how much they can do….but I do! I am persistent, passionate and patient with students.” Many of Angela’s students from Serbia were recruited by American universities to play on scholarships.

As her coaching career blossomed, Angela earned her Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) certification in Budapest, Hungary, then opened a small club in her family backyard in Serbia with two clay courts. This year-round facility (thanks to a bubble over one of the courts), known as the “Queen Tennis Club,” is where she developed elite juniors – some of whom are top performers on the WTA tour today.

Angela and her husband eventually moved to the U.S., settling in the tennis community of Hilton Head, South Carolina where they raised a top junior and college player of their own. They recently relocated to Los Angeles, and she looks forward to working with our new generation of young players on school campuses and at local clubs throughout Southern California.
