Andrea Crum was born and raised on a farm in central Illinois with her nine older siblings. After roaming around the country living in several different cities – Minneapolis, MN, Pocatello, ID, Provo, UT, Houston, TX, Hartford, CT – she finally found her way to Los Angeles. She has now worked at the same company for over 20 years, and is currently the Executive Assistant to the CEO, COO, and General Counsel, at a medical liability insurance company.
She started playing tennis when she was about 40 at the (former) Downtown YMCA tennis courts in Los Angeles. Chris Robb and Nick Page were her first coaches and got her started with USTA. She began her journey as a League Captain in 2011 and has a terrific reputation and amazing organizational skills.
Andrea loves being a captain because she can meet new people and gain wonderful friends. She currently serves as the captain of the “Downtown Aces,” who play at Vermont Canyon in Griffith Park. For the winter league in 2022/23, they were the “P-22s” in honor of a mountain lion named P-22 who resided in Griffith Park where her team practices and sadly passed away right as the winter league was starting. Andrea praised her team saying: “I love the people on my teams. No cheaters, nobody is angry or blaming when someone loses. Tennis is fun!”
With over 12 years of experience, Andrea’s best advice for new captains is: “It’s always best to be pleasant & cooperative instead of rude and difficult.”
