iTennis Andulka Park Open Championships To Offer Equal Prize Money

PR rep Marcus Root reports  that the annual iTennis Andulka Park Open Championships this year will offer equal prize on both the men’s and women’s side. See below for more information on the event, which runs Nov. 3-5 in Riverside.
Entries are now being accepted for the seventh annual iTennis Andulka Park Open Championships tennis tournament at Andulka Park Tennis Center, in Riverside. Following last year’s debut of paying down to the quarterfinals in men’s singles, this year the bar has been raised even further by the groundbreaking action of equal pay for both the men’s and the women’s draws, regardless of draw size.

Typically, Adult Open tournaments do not offer equal pay for both genders, as most prize money tournaments have more male entrants, than women entrants. Therefore, women stand to win less prize money even though they pay the same entry fee. “Why should the women pay the same entry fee for a smaller reward?” asked tournament director Evan Parry. “Last year we increased the prize money for the women, and this year they will play on an equal prize money field.” Parry hopes that guaranteeing women equal prize money will will help attract more female entrants.Total prize money for this tournament has been increased to $10,000, enabling Parry to increase the prize money for each stage of competition, as well as continuing to pay all players down to the quarterfinals in singles, and even the semifinals in doubles.

Scheduled for November 3-5, guaranteed prize money will be paid out as follows, equal pay for each gender:
SINGLES

Champion – $1,500
Finalist – $800
Semifinalists – $300/each

Quarterfinalists – $150/each

DOUBLES
Champions – $800/team
Finalists – $400/team

Semifinalists – $150/team

Entries close October 30th, and draw size will be determined by the number of entries. Register online at TennisLink, tournament I.D. 650008117
