This Saturday gone (November 4) Kern Community Tennis Association (KCTA) and City of Bakersfield Recreation and Parks had their third of three play days at Jastro Park in Bakersfield.
Volunteer coaches, and high school students came together to provide two hours each week of on court instruction, tennis games, prizes.
Beth Kuney, President of the KCTA, said “it was a great show of volunteers and participants. Each week grew in numbers. Wonderful opportunity to introduce the game to the kids. We really appreciated City of Bakersfield donating the courts for the events, this gave us extra funds to put into the prizes and goodies for the kids.”
There was a great show of juniors, approx 24 the first week, and each week grew about 20%. They had an orange ball court for juniors aged nine years and older, and a red ball court for those kiddos aged nine and under. At the end of the day both courts came together for a “hit for prizes”.
Chuck Provencio (Junior Director at Bakersfield Racquet Club) ran the red ball court. Beth Kuney from KCTA organized a number of high school students to assist on court, worked fantastic. They ran so smoothly, parents, kiddos, and volunteers had a fantastic time!
