The Samuel Hardy Award, sponsored by the International Tennis Hall of Fame, is presented to a USTA volunteer in recognition of long and outstanding service at the national level to the sport of tennis. The recipients must exemplify qualities of selflessness and devotion to the game that have been an inspiration to others, and the recipient is announced each spring at the USTA Annual Meeting & Conference.

This year, the SCTA is pleased to congratulate Bill Kellogg, this year’s winner of the Hardy Award. Well known in the Southern California tennis landscape, Kellogg was instrumental in bringing both the 2014 Davis Cup and 2010 Fed Cup competitions to Southern California, and continues to develop exceptional adult tournaments held at La Jolla and its environs.

As a leader, Bill Kellogg never fails to give back to the game. For over 35 years, he has served as a member of the SCTA Board of Directors. He is a contributor to the International Tennis Federation’s Seniors Committee and the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s International Advisory Board. Locally, Kellogg spent four years as the president of the San Diego District Tennis Association, then turned his attention to Youth Tennis San Diego as its president.

Much like his award winning La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, Bill Kellogg has been recognized countless times for his extensive contributions. In 2001, he was the recipient of the USTA Eve Kraft Award for Community Service. In 2004, he was awarded the Senior Service Bowl, and in 2008 was inducted into the San Diego Tennis Hall of Fame for his achievements in community service. Last fall, Kellogg was inducted into the SCTA Hall of Fame.

Previous recipients of the Samuel Hardy award include Dr. Allen B. Stow (the first awardee, in 1953), and William F. Talbert in 1986.
