Finally, Giuliana Olmos can sleep.

The 25-year-old former USC standout ended her 2018 season on a high note, advancing to the doubles final in the WTA $125,000 Houston Oracle Challenger as she and her partner fell 10-8 in the final.

One week before, Olmos (known as Ju-Ju) had a career-best run in singles as she made it to the semifinals of the Red Rock Pro Open in Las Vegas, an $80,000 USTA Pro Circuit event. Following equal-level events in Macon, Ga., and Tyler, Texas, Olmos ended her Las Vegas run losing to good friend and practice partner Nicole Gibbs.

The 25-year-old Olmos, ranked around No. 400 in the WTA world singles rankings, had to go through qualifying and played seven consecutive singles matches in Las Vegas. In all, Olmos played 24 matches in 20 days with just two days off during the three Pro Circuit events.

“I feel pretty good,” Olmos said after her quarterfinal upset win over No. 3 seed Fanny Stollar. “I had an ice bath in Macon and haven’t been sore since. I’m actually impressed with how my body is holding up.”

She added, “I’ve got a little bit of momentum and I’m trying to ride this wave.”

Olmos is an Austrian-born Northern California resident who has represented Mexico in the Fed Cup. Olmos’ mother is originally from Austria and her father was raised in Mazatlan, Mexico.

Olmos had never reached the semifinals of an $80,000-level event but did reach the quarterfinals in singles at the $100,000 tournament in Tampico, Mexico.

She said it has been easy not to look ahead but focus on one match at a time. “I didn’t think I’d get this far so I have not looked ahead,” Olmos said. “I’m just going to try and keep it going. I finally have the belief that I can play with these top players and just playing with a lot of confidence right now.”

Olmos ended the year ranked No. 79 in the world in doubles, and said she’s looking forward to her off-season and then back to training and getting prepared for 2019.
