Long Beach resident Steve Weaver rolled out a portable court on Saturday and played tennis games with able-body and wheelchair tennis players at the VA Welcome Home Celebration that took place at the Long Beach VA Hospital.

Weaver said the event was a great way to raise awareness for wheelchair tennis. “We had a great clinic as more than 50 vets were rallying on our mini court,” said Weaver, pictured in the photo above playing a wheelchair tennis game of 21 with Navy veteran Cedric DeLong.

Weaver added his next event will be a wheelchair tennis exhibition at the Long Beach USTA Pro Circuit Futures event at El Dorado Park on the Friday before the doubles final on Jan. 12.
