The USTA Girls’ 16s & 18s National Championships, which are being played this week at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, will offers fans the opportunity to watch the top junior players in the country as well as providing a peek at the future of American women’s tennis.

This weekend, more fans than ever before will have the chance to watch the action, as Tennis Channel will provide unprecedented coverage of the final two days of the tournament.

The Girls’ 16s singles final and both Girls’ 18s singles semifinals will be broadcast on Saturday, Aug. 12, and the Girls’ 18s singles final will be broadcast on Sunday, Aug. 13.

“This is the first time in the history of this event that matches will be shown on live television,” said Tournament Director Lornie Kuhle. “Fans from around the world who have access to Tennis Channel will be able to watch some great tennis this weekend.”

Kuhle added, “It’s been a groundbreaking year for this tournament with all of the upgrades we’ve made including new sponsors, a video wall, new draw boards and improved seating on Stadium Court, but having Tennis Channel broadcast the final two days takes this event to a whole new level.”

The majority of American players on the women’s professional tour have played in the Girls’ 16s Nationals, which began in 1962, and/or the Girls’ 18s Nationals, which date back to 1918. Past tournament champions include Chris Evert, Tracy Austin, Andrea Jaeger, Zina Garrison, Mary Joe Fernandez, Jennifer Capriati and Lindsay Davenport.

Two recent Girls’ 18s champions also have made great strides as professionals. Last year’s champion Kayla Day (pictured) is currently No. 122 in the WTA rankings, while 2014 champion CiCi Bellis has broken into the Top 50. (She is currently No. 36 in the world.)

The Girls’ 18s singles champion and doubles champions will receive main draw wild cards into this year’s US Open.

This weekend’s Tennis Channel coverage of the USTA Girls’ 16s & 18s National Championships in San Diego will be as follows:

Saturday, Aug. 12 – Girls’ 16s singles final and both Girls’ 18s semifinals 2:30-8:30 p.m. ET (11:30 a.m. -5:30 p.m. PT) immediately following the Rogers Cup from Canada.

Sunday, Aug. 13 – Girls’ 18s singles final 4-6 p.m. ET (1-3 p.m. PT) immediately following the Rogers Cup and Western & Southern first round.
