Here’s our Weekend Wrap to kick off the month of April!

It turned out last weekend that a Roger & Rafa sequel was in the works all along, but that didn’t stop some American stars from playing a solid two weeks under the sun in Florida at the Miami Open. Jack Sock continued his impressive 2017 campaign with a semifinal appearance, falling to Rafael Nadal before charging into the doubles final won by Marcelo Melo & Lukasz Kubot. In other action, Venus Williams has another strong tournament by advancing to the quarterfinals. Onn the local scene, a host of SoCal competitors finished strongly at the Easter Bowl in Indian Wells. Alafia Ayeni (San Diego) and Claire Liu (Thousand Oaks) won in ITF 18s, while Brandon Nakashima (San Diego) cruised through the final of Boys 16s and Kyle Kang (Fullerton) was victorious in the Boys 12s.

This week, US Pro Futures are in action, including an impressive array of talent on court in Charleston, SC at the Volvo WTA Premier event. Kayla Day (Santa Barbara) and Asia Muhammad (Long Beach) are among those in a field of 19 Americans that includes Venus Williams, Madison Keys, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, and Alison Riske. Julia Boserup (Newport Beach) will compete at the Abierto GNP Seguros WTA International in Mexico along with Danielle Lao (Arcadia), CiCi Bellis, and Madison Brengle.

Sam Querrey (Santa Monica) and Steve Johnson (Redondo Beach) join Jack Sock and John Isner in Brisbane for the quarterfinals of Davis Cup action. Good luck, USA!
